I just got some fire from my 2 year old Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro, and I could smell smoke from 3 meters distance today.
Now I need a new card, so which suggestions do you have?
I have a motherboard that only support AGP now and I didn}t really plan to upgrade it before neither. It is a P875 chipset and I use a 3.2 GHz P4 CPU on it with a 10.000 rpm system disk and 2 normal sata disk in Raid 0 as prog disk. (example Project Entropia as a program )
1024 MByte RAM (TwinMOS with Winbond chip) Dual DDR. I plan to upgrade to 2048 MByte very soon.
I really want something like X850XT PE, but not really sure if I get enough perfomance for the money. It is not actually a cheap card.
So what do you guys think? Of course the machine will not only be used to play PE, but most of the time I will be there
Hopefully I can order my card within tomorrow so I get it in next week when I am home from my Paris vacation.
I run a little X300 ATI thingy, 256 mb ram etc, it works wonderfully with PE, so juts hunt out the specs for it, and find somethign close to it in AGP - this is a PCIx card, but you should be able to find an AGP match as it’s about the slowest PCIx card money can buy
I am using a 6800GT 256MB and I love it with PE. :love:
I suggest checking out this post on HardOCP forums though for good reccomendations in every price range. :wise:

As always.. depends on what you want to do.
Do you play nothing but PE? If so then you dont have to go apeshit with a new video card. I have a 2 year old 128mb ATI 9700 that plays PE, UT2k4, HL2 and others like a dream.
Now if you want to dump loads of cash into a video card for bragging rights, thats a whole other story. But if your main cause is playing PE and surfing then you dont need all that horsepower.
The engine that PE uses wont tax even a WAAAY low powered vid card probably ever (minus a whole new engine, which i doubt is in the works).
So there ya go. The voice of reason. I have a laptop with a shitty 32mb on board card that plays PE fine. Where do you want to go? (cant say today, thats M$ deal… hehe)
