As I have said many times, what I think what happened is that Mindark did not really plan anything for it, more like a collector’s item but than ND went totally mad and spent huge money for it and MA laughed their asses off.
The fact that someone has more money than brains, doesn’t mean that it should make something special.

i think there was some sort of storyline behind it.

Now there have been for ages in the planet calypso folder a mob referenced as a feffox. It basically is a fat blue atrox. Guess who are the parents.
There is also some kind of feffoid shaman boss, a feffoid with a trox wering atrox outfit.
I think the whole storyline get censored or MA fired the wrong people so forgotten content.

I dont know what it was originally was sold for but was there at cape when the guy sold it to ND. He sure had a blast spending it on buying some top kit immediately afterward. It made the AH very busy too since some things he wanted were not listed, so pm’s were sent and many showed up to sell him what they had. Fun times 
If you haven’t figured it out, the real problem is that MA is making this up as they go along. They throw something into the game and then either find a way to make it useful, or just ignore it completely and hope that people stop asking.
At least Deathifier can use the egg as a tourist attraction. Maybe recoup his money from the hunting and mining taxes.
