If you decide to bypass the offical channels of depositing and withdrawing money in PE with paypal, you need to read this and understand the possible risks.
- Paypal’s intangible good policies.
Paypal has very little protections associated for people selling intangible goods. Meaning a non-physical item, digital. There is no evidence that the item was delivered or not, therefore paypal usually sides with the buyer in such cases. If a buyer was to buy from you and they filled out the forms properly to indicate it is a payment for an item. Then the user takes delivery of the peds, then later claims to paypal that you never delivered the items, you will have absoutely no evidence to prove that you did send the item. paypal will only accept shipping reccords, tracking, delivery receipts, etc. It is entirely possible you can loose your money if the seller was to disupte it.
Possible ways to protect yourself from this: Do not accept payments that are filled out as a sale, or in anyway indicates it is a sale of an item in the description. Require that the person send it as a gift, not a sale. This will make it far more difficult for them to file a complaint. Do not accept payments from people without a VERIFIED paypal address, if possible send this person a letter via certified, tracking, delivery receipt, etc.. Online tracking of and delivery confermation. This letter would contain a password they must give you in order to get their peds. This would prove that to paypal that a physical good was delivered.
Weigh your risks, don’t rush into anything to quickly. People are out there to defaud you, not everyone but some people will be.
- Stolen paypal accounts.
In recent months it has become a plauge on the internet. Phishing attacks. E-mails that are made to look like offical e-mails from paypal that direct users to a fake website designed to look like paypal’s website, but just capture your login infromation. These accounts are then stolen and used to purchace various online intangible goods, website access, etc. It is entirely possible that these people could use PE to receive real money from their crimes, with a lower level of risk.
They would simply buy peds from unsuspecting people with the stolen accounts. Then resell these peds, and get “clean” money from their stolen money. This could be a real problem in PE. Although I’ve not seen any evidence of this. It is possible though. If someone was to send you moeny from a stolen account the transaction will get reversed and/or your account could be perm locked and you’d loose all the money you have in paypal.
Therefore you need to be very sure of who your dealing with. It is always a good idea to send physical tracked mail (online delivery confermation) with a password to verify the senders VERIFIED address, before you transfer peds. The scammer will be unable to add a new verified address to the account, and therefore would never get your letter.
Another way to detect a stolen account is verify the e-mail address of the sender. A scammer will have a hard time adding a new e-mail address to a stolen account without alerting the owner of something going on. Therefore I’d recommend checking the e-mail addresses involved in the trasaction. Don’t transfer the peds until the e-mail address that sent you money responds to your e-mail. This should verify that the sender of the money does indeed contron the account and e-mail address.
Also getting the person’s phone number is good. Calling them. request to meet them in-game before the transaction. See that the peds exist. Take screenshots. Discuss the transaction and details IN-GAME. (mindark can check logs). Get them on your Friends List before the money is transfered.
- Deadbeat sellers.
It is entirely possible for someone to claim they’re selling peds, and not have any to sell. Just collect your money via paypal and not deliver anything. When you buy from someone be sure you know their in-game name, have them on your FL, talk to them in-game before you send the money, Verify their e-mail address in-game, request to see the peds in trade before you send the money.
Be 100% sure that the seller does indeed have the peds, and that you have a way to contact them in-game.
Always take screenshots of in-game transactions and conversations. Press “C” to print the server time for the screenshots. If anything goes wrong these will help you with your support case with mindark. (use the program grab-clip-save for screenshots if you don’t have another you use).
- Fake paypal e-mails.
It is entirely possible that someone may just send you a fake e-mail that says they sent you money with paypal. ALWAYS VERIFIY with the paypal website that the transaction occured and is the status “completed” BEFORE you transfer the peds.
…
Keep in mind that doing transactions outside the offical channels carries risk. To reduce your risks, know what they are. Knowledge is power.
And if you can only deposit via paypal I recommend buying peds from www.game-time.info .
