As the new owner of North Space Base Docks B #1, I’ve been thinking about hangar functionality.
In a MindArk AMA, Magnus Eriksson was asked when hangars might generate income again. He replied that MA was still considering “the history of the hangars” in future plans for planetary infrastructure and its connection to space.
My suggestion: let owners permanently dock a Sleipnir, Quad, Equus, etc. at a hangar console. While docked, the vehicle would be unavailable for personal use. Players could use the console to travel to Calypso Orbit—either the Space Station or capital ships they have permission to board. The flight would consume the owner’s normal thruster cost, while allowing the owner to set a fee for the service.
This may not be the most extravagant idea for restoring hangar functionality, but it could be relatively simple from a development standpoint while providing some basic utility—and restoring a small economic role to hangar ownership.
Hangars where ment for space travel when space was changed hangar owners got comped you both own dead content that you bought well after it was dead you have a glorified apartment now with your own terminals tho. I don’t understand the thought process of people “let me buy something useless so I can complain about it needing a use”
A suggestion is not the same as a complaint, but I can see why you might categorize my comment more broadly.
Whether it is dead content or not is an interesting argument in and of itself, but to clarify I definitely referred back to the comment from Magnus Eriksson in the AMA as the basis for the idea that something may be added by MA in the future to fill the gap. (It’s actually more of a large concrete pit with no utility than a “gap,” per se, but you get the drift.)
My particular suggestion was just one potentially small what-if. I was hoping for more suggestions here. A little brainstorm.
Even just the ability to dock a capital ship at a hangar would be a functional improvement with no adjustment to game balance or any type of new “free benefit” being added. There’s another small idea. Anybody have any good ideas?
It has exactly as much if not more utility than any other (non shop) estate. It has a lot of IP and space and all terminals and is a decent estate for all estate purposes.
I just wanted to add my amazement and frustration with not being able to fly or use a vehicle in a hangar… hold on while I use my umbrella only indoors…
And how about they add a living space where the inoperable door is next to the bar? Judging by the layout of the hangar, there is more than enough room to put something in there.
